ENTRY DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

A passport or some other form of identification. Visitors may stay for up to three months. Vehicle papers required are the registration booklet, and an international motor vehicle insurance certificate (a green card).

CUSTOMS

There is no customs duty to pay on personal things.Other items, such as a radio telephone, sporting and professional equipment, can be freely brought into the country as long as they are properly declared at the frontier.

MONEY

The official currency of the Republic of Croatia is the kuna (divided into 100 lipa). Foreign currency can be changed in banks, official exchange offices and post offices at the prevailing rate of exchange. As well as cash, credit cards (American Express, Diners, Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa) and Eurocheques (which have to be changed into kuna in a bank) can be used to pay for all goods and services. Foreign citizens can, when leaving Croatia, get foreign currency back for their unused kuna upon presentation of an exchange receipt, but only in banks. There are limits on the amount of Croatian currency that can be imported and exported.

REGISTERING YOUR STAY

Owners of accommodations in areas with tourist activities are required to register the stay of tourists with the local tourist community of the respective village or city. The tourist community is then required to issue a written residence permit for each registered guest. Tourists pay a fee for each day of their stay. Children up to 12 years of age are not required to pay a fee to stay, and children between 12 and 18 years of age pay 50 % of the fee.

NAUTICAL TOURISM - REGULATIONS FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS

The owner or driver of a boat over three meters in length and with a motor over 4 kw must, immediately after entering Croatian territorial waters, register their arrival and stay with the next appropriate port authority, in so far as they intend on traveling along the coastline and to the islands. Water vehicles arriving by way of land can be registered with any port authority. The boat driver is required to register all people on board. Further, the owner, or as the case may be, driver of the boat, must register all persons on the boat with the appropriate tourist office so that the compulsory residence fee can be levied.
